From my notebook: Martin Luther’s questions to ask yourself about your preaching

I have all manner of tidbits that I've picked up in my reading and recorded in my notebooks for my own benefit. I thought I'd share a few of these things over the next few weeks.

Martin Luther’s questions to ask yourself about your preaching:
  1. Do you preach/teach systematically?
  2. Do you have a ready wit? (i.e., do you use humor well and appropriately?)
  3. Are you eloquent? (are you a wordsmith?)
  4. Are you caring for your voice?
  5. Do you have a good memory?
  6. Do you know when to end?
  7. Are you sure of your doctrine?
  8. Will you risk body, blood, wealth, and honor to preach? (you must have courage to preach)
  9. Will you allow yourself to be mocked and jeered?
